The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail is a 2,180 mile footpath running along the east coast of the U.S.  The southern most point of the trail is Springer Mountain in Georgia, and the northern most point is Mt. Katahdin in Maine.  It passes through 14 states, and the total elevation gain of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail is equivalent to climbing Mt. Everest 16 times.
